Top Tibetan leadership in Australia gathers in Wagga Wagga City, passes resolutions and inaugurates books in council library

The 7th Governing Body Meet of the Australian Tibetan Community Association was held at Wagga Wagga city of New South Wales. The meet was organized by the President and Secretary of the ATCA and hosted by Wagga Wagga Tibetan Community under the leadership of its president, Mr. Jinpa Galdum.
The two day meet which was held from 14-15 of October was attended by presidents and an executive member from seven Tibetan communities including Sydney, New Castle, Nowra, Wagga Wagga, Canberra, Victoria and Queensland. Three of the other Tibetan communities who couldn’t attend the meet this time include Western Australia Tibetan Community, Tasmania Tibetan Community, and South Australia Tibetan Community. The charter of the ATCA listed 10 tibetan communities in the country under its current amendment.

Representative of HH the Dalai Lama and CTA, Mr. Karma Singey attended the meet as guest of honor and chief guest respectively. Amongst the guest was the Chinese Liaison officer, Ms. Dawa Sangmo.
The meeting begin on morning of 14th October by offering white scarf to HH the Dalai Lama portrait followed by Tibetan national anthem and observing a minute’s silence in solidarity with Tibetan martyrs inside Tibet for their sacrifice for tibetan freedom movement. During the meet, the MP Doring delivered a short speech welcoming all the seven participating governing members and provided guidelines for the meeting’s meaningful discussion and success, and stressed on serious discussions and deliberations during the period of the meet.
The top meet generally deliberates on future of course of actions by passing resolutions on various issues concerning Tibetan communities in Australia, and electing new president and secretary of the Australia Tibetan Community Association for the next two years. All the resolutions passed on 7th GBM shall be addressed to the respective community members through their executive soon after the meet.
The two day event in the city also included inauguration of Tibetan language book in the council library in Wagga Wagga city.
On the second day Mr. Doring along with Representative Karma Singey attended to inaugurate the inclusion of Tibetan language books in the Wagga Wagga city council library. During the inauguration, Mr Doring met with NSW MP for Wagga Wagga, Dr. Joe McGirr, Mayor & Councillor Mr. Dallas, and Multicultural Association officer to express gratitude on behalf of Tibetan Parliament for their efforts and support in bringing the special event for the Tibetan community in the city. Also present at the event are Chinese Liasson Officer Dawa Sangmo, President and Secretary of ATCA, member attendees of the meet and members of the Wagga Wagga Tibetan Community.
During a speech, Mr. Doring mentioned “The inclusion of Tibetan language book in the city’s library is not just a gift to the Tibetans in this city, but to the state, to the country and most importantly to the Tibetans inside Tibet who are languishing under Chinese oppressive policies. Tibetan political prisoners who fought for language and cultural rights will find solace in learning the news of today’s event”. The city’s celebrated news outlet, The Daily Advertiser also featured the event the following day on both print and website news.
The governing body meeting concluded with the election of Mr. Chuzin Ngawa, President of Sydney Tibetan Community and Mr. Phurbu, President of Nowra Tibetan Community as president and secretary of ATCA respectively. Both the chief guest and guest of honor and newly elected president and secretary acknowledged the selfless service rendered by Mr. Kalsang Tsering and Gyur Bumgyal during whose ATCA leadership led many events of maiden nature.
It was Doring’s maiden visit to the Wagga Wagga city and it comes after his return from India a fortnight ago following 6th session of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. Doring is set to visit other cities in Australia in the coming weeks.
