Queensland Tibetan community to celebrate HH the Dalai Lama’s 85th Birthday at New Farm Park this Saturday.

The Tibetan community of Queensland who couldn’t celebrate the 85th birthday of their leader His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on 6 July on account of state restrictions in the wake of COVID 19 is set to celebrate his birthday on 11th July at new farm park riverside, according to the community’s Facebook page, Queensland Tibetan Community.

Tibetans inside Tibet who face ban celebrating His Holiness birthday from the Chinese authorities reportedly celebrated their leader's birthday out in the open park earlier. Some of them disappeared following the event. The celebration in new farm park would mark a support for them. 

The approximately 140 strong Tibetan community in the state, nearly 40% of whom are children will have members coming all the way from Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast to participate in the birthday celebration of the Dalai Lama, who had visited Australia several times including Brisbane.

On July 6, the community managed to receive wishes from diverse youth leaders based in Brisbane. Among the prominent wishing H.H the Dalai Lama happy birthday include internationally known Drew Pavlau, a free Tibet supporter and admirer of His Holiness, former young liberal leader and student politician Barclays Mcgain, Vietnamese Democrat Youth leader Vincent Do, Vietnamese community Vice President Tere Sa, young Hongkong leader (who requested for anonymity). Amongst the Federal leader is member of parliament Andrew Laming who wished for His Holiness the birthday with words of wisdom. Other youths who wished His Holiness on his birthday include UQ students Hamish Greenop-Roberts, Taylor Wass, Malaysian activist and student Christian Balachandran from Canberra and a Chinese student, teacher and Tibetam freedom supporter. 

Others who wished His Holiness on his birthday in the compilation of the community Facebook video include the fourth generation of Tibetans in exile and diasporas, toddlers and children who beautifully wished H.H the Dalai Lama a happy birthday in both Tibetan and English in their traditional attire. The  five minute short video can be accessed from the Tibetan community facebook page titled 'Queensland Tibetan Community'. 

The Tibetan community will be undertaking a day long celebratory programs such as plays, games, songs, quiz contest. Home cooked foods will be brought by each family members to share their love and taste of hand. An environment cleaning program is also slated to take place following the directions from Central Tibetan Administration to highlight the His Holiness the Dalai Lama's important advice on protection of environment. 

Other cities where His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday celebrated in Australai include Sydney and Canberra. New Zealand Tibetans also managed to celebrate the Dalai Lama’s birthday. Tibetans in Melbourne might face issues of restrictions in gathering in large number for His Holiness birthday owing to rebirth of Covid 19 cases in Victoria.
