A Tibetan youth and Federal Member Bob Katter’s motion for inquiry into Australian universities of Chinese control and interference

In a landmark accomplishment by Defend Democracy’s urge, Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter’s motion for inquiry into Australian universities of Chinese control and interference has been accomplished. Australia is set to initiate an inquiry into Australian universities including University of Queensland against Chinese Communist government’s interference and control. It comes in the wake of Defend Democracy activists urging Federal Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter and expulsion and banning of student activist Drew Pavlau from the UQ.

Defend Democracy is a new organization formed by youth members and registered in Queensland. Drew Pavlau, who currently heads the Defend Democracy or D2 has number of board members including Tibetans, HongKong, Ugyurs, Australians and Vietnamese most of whose names Bob Katter mentioned in the parliament crediting the move. The main objective of the organization is to protect Australia’s democracy and to bring democracy in China. It was during that time that Drew Pavlau introduced Doring Tenzin Phuntsok to Bob Katter who not only took interest in the Tibetan issue but also promised to go ahead with the motion.

While proposing the motion, Federal Member Bob Katter also acknowledged and mentioned names of those who have been part of this fight for defending Australian universities. The only Tibetan who has been part of the fight for protecting universities from Chinese influence in Brisbane so far has been Doring Tenzin Phuntsok whose names also was mentioned by Bob Katter in the parliament as ‘Tenzin Doring’ along with Drew Pavlau and ten others. Bob Kater told parliament in the during his last minutes of motion speech, "In Conclusion, I want to name the 12 disciples as I call them. Drew Pavlau, Christopher Stewart, Wilson Gavin, Dylan Lyons, Jack Conkey, Tim Tyrell, Isabel Haqqani, Marcus Harrington, Kam, Tenzin Doring, Badiucao and all my brave Uiguyr, Tibetan and Chinese dissent friends and the countless heroes who make up the HongKong International Alliance in Brisbane"

Defend Democracy within few months of its establishment made a landmark achievement and will continue its fight in defending democracy. The inquiry into China’s interference and control over universities have been handed over to the joint parliamentary committee for Intelligence and Security. Meanwhile, Drew Pavlau will soon be testifying before parliament for on the same issue.
