March 10 Tibetan Uprising Commemoration in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Tibetans all over the world, (except inside Tibet where China’s strict and pre-emptive lockdown still looms large), have come out on the streets to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day. Tibetans cutting in four continents covering more than 25 countries are seen to have made protest march in their own cities, North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

In Australasia and East Asia, Tibetans gathered in huge turn out in Taiwan, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, Tibetans and supporters took to street with march in Sydney (New South Wales), Melbourne (Victoria), Perth (Western Australia), Brisbane (Queensland) and other cities. 

In the city of Brisbane powerful youth speakers delivered influential and emotional speeches. Greens leader and Councillor for Gabba (Brisbane) Jonathan Sri not only promised his continued support for Tibet cause, but even furthered to urge other political leaders to come out and speak on Tibet issue. Youth icon Drew Pavlau delivered the most powerful speech and even brought emotional connectivity. He said “I will not rest until Tibet is free and Tibetans are able to see and unite with their families in Tibet”. Hongkong youth leaders Max Mok and Cassendra Yeung also spoke and expressed their complete support for Tibetans. They said we have common enemy and its important that Communist China’s influence and expansion must be put to halt. Two ardent Chinese supporters; former political prisoner Fordstralia and Yujian Zhang spoke on how Communist China owe apology to what they did to Tibetans. An Australian supporter made an emotional plea to the world to support Tibet cause as she was being a changed being after meeting His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The former President of Tibetan Community of Queensland, Tenzin Phuntsok Doring delivered introductory speech anchored by Secretary of Tibetan Community, Sherab Tsomo. Ardent community member Phuntsok Tsering led the Long-Sho (Rise Up) song at the protest gathering. The protest march was being led by the President of Tibetan Community of Queensland, Ngawang Tsondue. 

The speech was followed by slogans and group photo following which peace march was undertaken from Emma Milluer Place at Roma Street to New Farm Park crossing CBD and Fortitude Valley known for China Town. The march successfully ended with a prayer at the New Farm Park led by Vice President of TCQ, Geshi Thupten La. The four police officials and a liason officer who escorted the march protest till the destination even highly commended on how Tibetans have undertaken the protest march peacefully.
